When the Dutch flight attendant Lin needs to assist in a childbirth during a flight, this confronts her with painful memories from the past. After that, an accidental encounter with the fifteen-year-old Nicu, who lives in the underground tunnels of Bucharest, unfolds in a complex connection between both.
The film was selected as the Dutch entry for the best non-English-language film for the 90th Oscar ceremony.
In October 2017, the film won the Narrative Feature Award for best film at the Austin film festival in the US state of Texas.
At the Dutch Film Festival 2018 ‘In Blue’ has won 3 Gouden Kalveren for Best Script (Jan Willem den Bok / Jaap van Heusden), Best Director (Jaap Heusden), Best Actress (Maria Kraakman)
